A Carson City couple face felony charges of grand larceny and were arrested Saturday after allegedly gaining access to a residence and then using a vehicle without the owner’s permission, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Branno Arlo Johnson and Danielle Abella were taken into custody at 7:49 p.m. According to the arrest report, Abella had befriended the victim while in jail and gave the suspect personal information about where she lived. When the victim returned to her home, she found it in disarray and her white 2002 Dodge Durango missing.
Investigating deputies learned a neighbor had given the suspects access to the home and the vehicle keys. Officers responded to the 1900 block of F Street and called the suspects out of the home. Abella was read her Miranda rights and stated the victim told her she should stay inside, clean up the residence and drive her pickup. She advised her boyfriend, Johnson, also drove the Dodge because she did not have a valid license. Abella told deputies she got the key from the neighbor. Both suspects declined to fill out a statement.
The victim stated she did tell Abella she needed help with cleaning the house but said she never gave the two permission to be inside her home or drive the vehicle, the arrest report states. Abella and Johnson were charged with felony grand larceny. Bail: $25,000 each.
In other arrests: Two 18-year-old men were arrested Saturday on felony drug charges after they allegedly sold marijuana to a 15-year-old female in exchange for a smart phone, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Erik Flores-Hernandez and Ricardo Conchas were arrested at 6:27 p.m. in the 1300 block of S. Curry Street. According to the arrest report, a deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team observed a transaction while parked outside a restaurant on Carson Street.
After observing the exchange, deputies stopped the two vehicles involved. Officers spoke with those involved and learned after reading the suspects their Miranda rights that there was a transaction for 2 grams of marijuana for a smart phone, the arrest report states.
Flores-Hernandez admitted he met the buyer through Craigslist and the two talked about the smart phone and a promotion a store had of turning in an old smart phone to get a new one for free, the arrest report states. He contacted the girl and they agreed to meet and make an exchange of 2 grams of marijuana for the smartphone. There was also $40 attached to the transaction, which Flores-Hernandez denied, the arrest report states.
The driver of one of the vehicle, Conchas, was also arrested. Both face the following charges: Felony suspicion of sales of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act. Bail: $21,774 each.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man, and driver of the other vehicle involved in the drug transaction, was arrested on a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment.
The arrest report states the suspect drove the 15-year-old girl as part of the drug transaction involving $40 and the cell phone. The 21-year-old suspect was driving with an instruction permit and has previously had his license revoked, the report states. There was not a licensed driver in the vehicle and the suspect was unable to provide current insurance. He was arrested for child endangerment for driving the 15-year-old to the drug deal, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a seatbelt violation and no proof of insurance. Bail: $4,058.
— A 30-year-old Carson City man, Kyle Ostergaard, was arrested Saturday, 6:57 p.m. in the 500 block of Fairview Drive on a felony warrant for suspicion of sales of a controlled substance. According to the arrest report, a deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team assisted on a traffic stop in which the suspect had an active felony warrant. Ostergaard was arrested after the warrant was confirmed. Bail: $20,000.
— A 34-year-old Carson City man with two felony warrants for his arrest was booked Friday into Carson City Jail after being transported by the Henderson, Nev., police department, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Rigoberto Vega was formally charged with battery causing substantial bodily harm and possession of a concealed firearm. Both warrants were issued July 21, 2015 out of Carson City District Court. He was also booked on a misdemeanor warrant for contempt of court, issued Aug. 2, 2012 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $65,000.
In non-felony related arrests: A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 8:21 p.m. in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road on a gross misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the residence and spoke with witnesses who said the suspect pushed his wife into the front window of their apartment. The witnesses said they could hear the victim screaming for help inside the residence.
The victim told the officer she was trying to leave the apartment because the couple was fighting and that the suspect would not let her out. Bail: $5,637.
— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:29 p.m. in the area of Long and Humboldt streets on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 1800 block of Long Street for a reported fight. As a deputy arrived he saw a vehicle leaving the scene. A crowd of people pointed to the man’s vehicle that he was the guy involved in the fight, the arrest report states.
The officer stopped the man and asked what happened. The suspect told the deputy he got into a heated argument at a bar because people were disrespecting the military. The officer asked if he had been drinking. The man replied he had six beers and some shots. He was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests and he agreed. Officers observed six out of six clues of impairment. A preliminary breath test indicated a .140. He was arrested. Bail: $1,137.
— A 24-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday, 9:38 p.m. in the area of Kit Sierra Loop on a misdemeanor DUI warrant and obstructing an officer. Bail: $3,187.
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:41 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way on a misdemeanor charge of violation of a suspended sentence. The man had been drinking while on probation through Alternative Sentence with a no drinking clause. He had a preliminary breath test of .280. Bail: $1,000.
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 8:42 p.m. in the area of Deer Run Road and Laurel Road on misdemeanor charges of DUI, reckless driving, open container and no proof of insurance. Deputies were called to the area for a single vehicle accident where a vehicle hit a power pole. The driver admitted he drank a 24-ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon beer earlier and smoked marijuana six hours prior. He voluntarily submitted to a breath test with a .130. Bail: $2,703.
— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 11:38 p.m. in the 1600 block of Truckee Drive on a misdemeanor charge, domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the residence in reference to a domestic battery. On arrival officers made contact with the victim who advised he got into a verbal argument with his live-in girlfriend.
During the argument the victim said he was hit by the woman on the left side of his face. The deputy asked the man if he had become physical with the woman. He replied he had not. A roommate advised the woman took a swing at the victim, but did not see where she struck him, however he heard the woman’s fist make contact with the victim, the arrest report states.
Deputies spoke with the suspect who advised she and the victim got into a verbal argument. She said at no time was their argument ever physical. Due to the witness account of the incident, the officer determined the woman to be the primary physical aggressor and she was booked into custody. Bail: $3,137.
— A 27-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Friday, 2:04 p.m. in the 1100 block of Fairview Drive on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, an officer was called to a storage facility where the reporting witness told dispatch that his girlfriend hit him in the head with a plastic water bottle.
Deputies met with the victim who said he and his ex-girlfriend were arguing when she struck him with the water bottle, breaking it. The officer asked if he had any injuries and the victim replied no. The officer did not observe any injuries.
The officer spoke with the suspect who was upset and angry when she spoke. She said the two got into an argument and she hit him in the head with a plastic water bottle. She told the officer she wished she had hit him with a bigger water bottle. The officer asked the woman if her boyfriend hit her and she replied he had not.
During the interview, the woman was angry, throwing items from her purse. At one point she took a drink out of a big water bottle and “suddenly for no reason, threw it across the street,” the arrest report states.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery. When the victim appeared to speak with the officer to fill out paper work, the suspect began to scream and yell at him, the arrest report states. Bail: $3,137.
— A 35-year-old man was arrested Friday, 12:21 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Robinson Street on misdemeanor charges of petit larceny, not having a valid driver’s license and running a traffic sign. According to the arrest report, officers observed a pink motor scooter being driven by a man who ran a signal. A second person on the scooter was a young female. The officer followed the scooter and conducted a traffic stop and the intersection of Robinson and Drew streets.
The man was unable to provide a valid driver’s license which is required to operate a motor vehicle. Once the officer checked both subjects, he was advised that both had been involved in criminal activities. The man voluntarily provided the officer with consent to search him and the compartment under the seat of the scooter. The officer located several new neck ties later identified by Ross store staff as stolen. The value of the 13 ties was nearly $150. The value of another item found, an electric shaver, was valued at $45. A set of speakers and a pair of new sunglasses were also recovered from the compartment.
A brief time later during the conversation, the man voluntarily admitted to having stolen the ties and the shaver from Ross store Thursday. The matter was confirmed with Ross store staff as items being stolen later that same day.
While other deputies conducted the followup investigation, Ross store personnel signed a citizen arrest form on the suspect for stealing the neck ties and shaver. During the interview, the man voluntarily admitted his intentions to return the stolen items for a refund at the store. He was arrested for petit larceny and traffic charges. Bail: $638.
— A 55-year-old Dayton woman was booked into Carson City Jail Friday, 11:48 a.m. on two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants. One was issued Jan. 21, 2009 out of Carson City Justice Court and the other, Oct. 22, 2008 out of Dayton Township Court. Bail: $1,197.
— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:39 p.m. in the 3200 block of Dale Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence, issued Aug. 19, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
