PAGE 16 THE DAILY SENTINEL SCOTTSBORO ALABAMA SUNDAY MARCH 23 1980 Shriners conduct annual Palm Sunday fund drive Sirinersof North Alabama aided by friendsof the Shrine will spent their Palm Sunday Week period selling special Palm Sunday Week newspapers Money collec ted through the sales of these newspapers will be used ex clusively to support the Shrine's national and local Crippled and Burned Hospital Program The program active in North Alabama for almost 30 years is in its 58th year for the dinners Hospitals for Crippled Children in North America Any child from in fancy to 18 years of age af flicted with congenital defor mities diseases of the bones joints or muscles or any child in the same age bracket having acute bums over an extensive portion of its body is eligible for acceptance All medical costs and tran sportation costs are provided free in either the orthopedic or bum units and there are no restrictions for religion color or financial status To give an idea of the scope of operations and services furnished by Shriners Hospitals the following figures are given ap proximately 315000 operations have been per formed 217000 braces have been applied approximately 2200000 clinic visists and more than 195000 children have been cured or materially helped An estimated 9000 new cases are being handled each year by the 21 hospitals which in clude three bum centers The 18 orthopedic units have logged almost 16000000 patient days Though the bum units have been open only 13 years they have already logged over 310000 patient days Shriners ask that when you see the Shriner in his funny red fez or helpers wearing the Swine buttons and selling Palm Sunday Week newspapers remember they are doing it to help some crip pled or burned child Do your share and help them help others This week look for the Siriners and their helpers selling newspapers If you aren't contacted call 574 3042 or 574 4398 or any Shriner in your neighborhood and arrangements will be made to deliver your paper and collect your donation 1 MICHELLE RENEE BROWN PALM SUNDAY PRINCESS Stamp club winners named HI AX The Ben ranklin Stamp Club of Scottsboro Junior High School spon sored by Mrs Anderson recently held a competition displaying stamps on various themes Pictured are club members as they congratulate winners irst place Mary Love Carlisle second place redrick Durham third place Michelle Bragg honorable mention Chris Parker In the back row are Brent Bridges and Susanna Haralson club member The club members expressed appreciation to Mr and Mrs Doran Ingram who judged the competition (Photo by Betty Schmidt) NOW OPEN ON BELLONTE AVENUE IN HOLLYWOOD NUCLEAR INN SANDWICHESSEAOOD CARRY OUT ORDERS CALL 259 2950 JAMES MACHEN MANAGER The spacewomen are coming By SHARON HERBAUGH Associated Press Writer SPACE CENTER Houston XP) Alan 9iepard Johnnn rank Borman Anna isiier Shannon Lucid Sally Ride Anna isher?
